Toni Servillo, a film and stage actor, highly acclaimed in Italy and abroad, was the undisputed star of the 82nd Venice Film Festival, where he opened the festival with Sorrentino’s “La Grazia” and won his first Coppa Volpi for his masterful portrayal of a President of the Republic.
Toni Servillo is a recurring and beloved presence at the Venice Film Festival, often associated with great Italian auteur films. In addition to triumphing at the recent edition (Venice 82) with the Volpi Cup for Best Actor for Sorrentino’s “La Grazia,” the Neapolitan actor has brought numerous notable works to the Lido.
Among his most notable appearances are the success of Paolo Sorrentino’s “It Was the Hand of God” (Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize, 2021) and, in the same year (Venice 78), his presence with two other films in competition: Leonardo Di Costanzo’s “Ariaferma” and Mario Martone’s “Qui rido io.” Servillo also returned to the Festival in 2024 (Venice 81) with the film “Iddu“, where he played a politician in contact with the mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, confirming his status as a fetish actor for the most internationally acclaimed Italian directors.
