Prof. Toshio Miyake
Born in Kyoto, Japan, and raised between Germany and Italy.
After specializing in critical and sociological theory of media at the Universities of Osaka, Ritsumeikan and Kyoto, he returned to Italy and chose Venice as his home: he has lived in its historic center for over 20 years.
Professor of Language, Culture and Society of Contemporary Japan at Ca’ Foscari University Venice.
His research explores the historical and cultural relations between Italy and Japan and between Europe and East Asia, questioning the ideas of “West” and “East” and the stereotypes through which we represent others and ourselves.
