With heavy hearts, the Catholic Church and the entire world mourn the passing of Pope Francis. A man of faith, humility and profound humanity, who left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions of people. In this moment of pain, we want to remember his indomitable spirit and his ability to bring hope even to the most fragile places, such as his recent visit to the island of Giudecca in Venice.

One year later, it was April 28, 2024, the Animica studio remembers with deep emotion the arrival of Pope Francis on the island of Giudecca, an event that brought comfort and attention to the most vulnerable, as evidenced by the article entitled “Power to the Fragile“.

The day began at 8 am with the landing of the Pontiff at the women’s prison on the island. Subsequently, Pope Francis crossed the Giudecca Canal aboard the “Papa Boat“, “VAI502”, a vessel specially built by local artisans.

The procession, escorted by the Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Venice, was greeted with a warm greeting by the inhabitants of the island, who launched balloons into the water as a sign of welcome.
Photographer Barbara Pigazzi documented this historic moment, capturing images that testify to the first visit of a Pope to Venice aboard the “Papa Boat“. At 1 pm, before the departure of the Pontiff for Rome, Barbara Pigazzi delivered the photographic prints she had made.

Special thanks are extended to the Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Venice, in particular to Vincenzo Barbangelo, for choosing a photograph by Barbara Pigazzi for the commemorative plaque of the event. The plaque, made of precious metal Lux Art mirror finish, represents an acknowledgement that Animica Studio Art Gallery welcomes with honor and pride.

In this moment of mourning, we raise a prayer of gratitude for the holy presence of Pope Francis on the island of Giudecca. His visit, a beacon of hope for the most fragile, will remain etched in our hearts as a tangible sign of his love and mercy. May his soul rest in peace, and his example of humility and service continue to illuminate our path.
