Maria Grazia Rosin

MARIA GRAZIA ROSIN

Maria Grazia Rosin (born 1958) is an Italian glass artist. Her works are included in the permanent collections of the Corning Museum of Glass, New York; the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; the Kunst Museum, Düsseldorf; and the Murano Glass Museum, Italy.

Rosin was born in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. She studied at the Istituto d’Arte di Cortina. In 1979, she moved to Venice, where she studied with Emilio Vedova at the Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1983.

After graduating, Rosin initially devoted herself to painting and also worked in graphic design, advertising, and design. Her passion for glass, however, grew over time, and since 1994, she has devoted herself almost exclusively to this material.

His transition to glass came about through his collaboration with the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in 1992, where he experimented with glass works created with the Murano school. His works are known for combining the ancient artisanal techniques of Murano’s master glassmakers with the use of complex technologies, such as the control of light, images, and electronic sounds, creating immersive and multisensory installations.

His creations, often characterized by organic forms and inspired by the underwater world, strike a balance between art and design. Among his most important works are the chandeliers for the restaurant of the Teatro La Scala in Milan, commissioned in 2005.

He has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Italy and abroad, and his works are included in important permanent collections. In addition to those already mentioned, they are also held at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Montreal Museum of Fine Art.
